Removing the Ballerina Up-do

Wow, this was a lousy style choice for this past week. We started on Monday with incredibly hot, dry Santa Ana conditions and within 24 hours were experiencing tropical thunderstorms with high humidity. Poor Boo's hair didn't know what to do! Truthfully, I think her hair was just having the same issues dealing with the crazy weather that the rest of us were having.

As a result, her hair went from straightened out dry fuzz to tightly coiled curls all in the period of a week. This did nothing to help the style she was wearing. The expanding and contracting of the hair basically pulled itself out of the cornrows and we were left today with a massive fuzzball atop her head.  Good thing it's hair day!

Thankfully Boo's puff stayed nicely moisturized. I was a little concerned about the dryness that I noticed last week but staying on top of it with product and humidifiers, then having the weather take a humid turn really helped us out in that department. Adding coconut oil (and making sure we rubbed it in to help with any dry scalp she might be having) should fix any remaining issues.

The cornrows, however, were another story. With all the new hair growth coming in on Boo's head it is really hard to have such large cornrows stay neat-looking for a whole week. Couple that with the crazy weather and it just proved to be a big fat mistake to have even attempted it. Oh well. Tomorrow's a new style that will hopefully make up for the mess of this week past.

Detangling was incredibly easy, as expected, since Boo's hair was in cornrows. I was surprised that her hair had recovered from the dryness that she was experiencing and seemed incredibly soft and strong. Parting went incredibly quickly; using my fingers was all that was necessary to pull the strands apart after I made a part.

Lastly, I twisted the sections and prepared them for bedtime. We will cover with a sleep cap (as always) and let Boo sleep on her hair until tomorrow morning when we set the style. This week I have a plan, thanks to Mama Holli!
