Free Photography For Adoptive Parents

I love, love, love stalking some of our readers' blogs  when readers share awesome tips and information (thanks Kylie!). This little tidbit is no exception. If you've adopted within the last year, you may qualify to receive a free photo session! How cool is that!?!

Celebrating Adoption is a fabulous little web site founded by Jenifer Samaha, who has painstakingly compiled a list of photographers who have graciously donated their services. These services, as outlined on the Web site, are as follows:
"If you are an adoptive family and have adopted your child within the last year, you qualify for a Celebrating Adoption session.

You will receive a complimentary  "parent & child" portrait session  (session fee is waived) and a small set of proofs.  The size and quantity of proofs, as well as whether proofs will be loose or bound into a proof book, has been left to the discretion of each photographer.  Each photographer sets his or her own policies.   Travel fees and additional subject fees may still apply."

I think this is just awesome and can't say enough about the generosity of the photographers who have volunteered their time and services to celebrate that special occasion when a child is welcomed into his or her forever family.

The list of participating photographers is available from the Web site as a downloadable PDF file. It doesn't appear as though all the states are covered, but there are photographers in both Australia and Canada. I can't vouch for whether or not all of the photographers listed are still participating, but it certainly could hurt to contact them ask about it.

Sadly, according to the Web site, they are not accepting new photographers at this time. Bummer because I'm sure there are many more photographers out there who would love to participate. If you don't find a photographer on the list for your area, it couldn't hurt to ask one if they would be willing to give you the same deal. Word of mouth does wonders to help grow photography businesses!

One final note, I know that not all of you are adoptive parents. However, some of you may be interested in getting photos taken of your blended family. As I outlined in my article Family Photos: It's Not Just Black and White, it can be difficult to find photographers with experience capturing families with several different skin tones. I would wager a guess that the photographers listed with Celebrating Adoption have had lots of experience with just that. Might be something worth considering when looking for your next photographer.
