From Monica R., when she was 7-years-old:
My mother was not a braider. I wore my hair in two large two strand twists most of my childhood. Every summer when I went to stay with my extended family I was allowed to get cornrows. I LOVED having cornrows and beads made them ten times better. I sat as still as possible and never complained even if my neck hurt or I got stiff because I knew when it was over I was going to be BEAUTIFUL. It was always worth it. I would spend two weeks with my hair clicking and swaying. I was always complimented too on how well I behaved while having them done and how nicely they turned out as a result. When I see little girls braided and beaded I always smile because I remember how beautiful I felt. :)

From Dominique-Alexis U., when she was 8 or 9:
I remember "hair day" as we called it in my house. Almost every week it was different but this is one that I remember the most. Me and two of my older sisters were all gather in my moms room. She had set up a folding chair by a table with a bunch of hair stuff on it. It was really cool because we could talk about our days and stuff over hair time.
Sometimes it gets frustrating to have so much hair, but more often than not, it's a blessing because there are a lot of good times that happened on hair day. Like running around the house with my sister with wet hair after a washing and whipping our heads around.
So I guess that's not really a story, but I thought I'd share it anyway :)
